Valentine's Day!

This tradition has been around too long and it’s another excuse to show someone you love (and it doesn’t have to be just your significant other or that crush you have) with something extra special whether it be flowers, a card, a homemade gift, candy or of course: CUPCAKES!! I did just that for everyone!!
I focused on two designs. One, the “Box of Chocolates” from the Hello Cupcake! Book.

Two, a basic vanilla recipe that you take part of the batter, color it, bake it on a cookie sheet, cut out hearts and bake them into the cupcakes! Both designs turned out very well for me!
The first one I did chocolate strawberry-filled cupcakes and used a variety of candy and frosting to decorate them like chocolates. They turned out super cute and here is the process of that:

For the second batch, I recently discovered using fruit naturally helps with coloring batter and frosting. Therefore, I used some strawberries to color the hearts. They baked rather nicely and I did the white swirl with the frosting, sprinkled red, pink sprinkles, and white non-perils and Heart toppers. Simple, but elegant.

It complimented the very creative “Box of Chocolate cupcakes.”

Baby Shower theme

I have now officially hosted (co-hosted) a baby shower! It was for my cousin and it was very exciting to do! We made it a co-ed one and had some fun games and prizes.

Of course I had to do some cupcakes too! I did general baby themed inspirations and made some ducks from the What’s New Cupcake? Book. I tried the melt down frosting and dip the cupcake in, but it didn’t work and I had to just frost them by hand. (Different texture but still cute). And of course I had some other issues like: The donut holes were big so I had to trim then down. Since the flavor of the cupcake was lemon with strawberry filling. The ducks’ heads were top-heavy and began drooping after being created.

I used frosting and colored melted candy wafers for the other cupcakes and displayed them with my homemade stand I used in the past.

Two other cakes showed up and because the cupcakes were so cute… they didn’t really get eaten. But overall fun to make!

For a movie theme or movie night

So I’m on an auction committee as a volunteer for the Tiny Tim Center in Longmont, Colorado. You can read about what they do here, and the auction right here. It’s an annual fundraising event and I’m very excited to help out!
So the theme for the auction is Evening with the Stars. The colors are black, white, silver, and red. It’s based around the old-time movies and Oscars. I decided to bring cupcakes to one of the meetings and I based the decoration around the theme using white almond bark for the stars and film reel. (I also did chocolate almond bark for the film reel as well.) When I placed the cupcakes a certain way, they got the look of the reel. I also complimented it with stars and added random red hots with those.

It looked great! But hard to pull apart as the almond bark hardens. So next time I’ll just use regular frosting. Overall, a hit! (and the flavor was chocolate)

Superbowl 46

So I’m normally not big on football games (I enjoyed them more in high school considering I was a cheerleader). But being a cupcake creator, I created a simple but fun design for the super bowl this year. I chose banana cream flavor for the cupcakes. Then I laid some out into a rectangle, added green grass and white stripes. I couldn’t forget the yard line numbers of course.

I created the footballs with chocolate and white chocolate almond bark. I thing I laid them on gave them curves, (although next time I’ll just use a flat surface).

After placing some footballs down, I decided to add the x’s and o’s they put for plays.
Oh and let’s not forget the goal posts!!

Elephants for a baby shower

So I love animals! And when I get requests for animal cupcakes my mind explodes with ideas!
A request came up for elephants for a baby shower. It was going to be a boy and the nursery was elephants! This design came right out of Hello Cupcake! Book. The flavor requested was red velvet. Blue candy wafers melted for the ears and trunk. Runt’s bananas for the tusks. The eyes were runts as well. You can also do white frosting then m&m’s.
These can be for birthday parties, or anyone who loves elephants!

Giant Cupcake--teeth!

So a fellow admirer found me a GIANT cupcake pan and I’ve been itching to try it out! Ironically an order came up for a cake and I suggested the Giant Cupcake! Luckily, they said yes! The theme was for a graduation party and the person graduating was going to be a dental assistant. I immediately thought of little teeth and an edible toothbrush! Now this cupcake takes a TON of batter (1.5 box mixes if you aren’t doing a scratch recipe). The cake popped right out after baking properly. It was GIANT! Here it is compared to a regular cupcake…

So I decorated it with frosting thinking purple and blue (dental assistant scrubs in mind) and created the teeth out of white chocolate almond bark.

Notice some smiling? J  I did “CONGRATS!” with stars out of same material as the teeth. The tooth brush is an airhead and the teeth are white chocolate almond bark as well!

Monster High Cupcakes

Ever wondered what the kids of Frankenstein, Warewolf, Dracula and all those classic villains would look like? Well not only did someone thought, but they did in fact, create them and a high school for them.

They are dolls (better than Barbie dolls I think) and thus inspired a new theme for cupcakes.  A dear friend of mine (well her daughter) is a fan and that was the theme for her birthday party this year.
Having seen my Halloween cupcakes, she ordered some from me. This I was excited to do because it was a new theme! They turned out awesome! I used pink and teal frosting base, drizzled chocolate almond bark to compliment the hairstyle of the characters and the “plaid” of the Monster High school logo.

I found the cupcake toppers on this etsy shop and I’m very pleased with the end results. The friend, daughter and party guests were too!!
